Weight loss tip: It's all about attitude

When it comes to maintaining a healthy weight, having a positive attitude can go a long way. You need to be able to see the benefits of eating well and doing exercise in order to find enjoyment from your day-to-day routine. After all, happiness is just as important as good health! So what is your attitude towards food and body image? Do you encourage yourself to push on and make changes or do you resent every day that you have to reach for a carrot stick instead of a chocolate bar? If you are on a diet that you detest, or feel that eating has become more of a chore than an enjoyment, then it may be time to rethink your attitude and find a new approach to weight management. Here are some ways that you can flip your focus to the positives of eating well and living strong! Focus on health If you have been struggling with your weight for a few years then it may be a good idea to put away the bathroom scales for a while and instead focus on health. Your weight is just a number on the scales - it is how you feel and the state of your wellbeing that is important. Make positive choices based on what is good for you, not what will make you lose weight fast. This means eating a varied diet including plenty of fruits, vegetables, wholegrains, proteins, vitamins and minerals. As long as your portion sizes are right, and you do not reward yourself for every salad you eat with a piece of chocolate, then your healthy eating should pay off in the long run. Focus on flavour Why do people always seem to think that 'healthy' is synonymous with 'boring'? There are so many delicious and nutritious foods out there - you just have to know where to look. For example, chocolate and lollies are not the only source of sweetness. Next time you eat blueberries or pineapple, take the time to really focus on the flavour. Fruit is an excellent sweet snack, and is much better for you than a handful of M&Ms. You can even minimise the amount of sugar in your diet by using a natural sweetener like Stevia or Xylitol. These so-called 'healthy sugars' are low in calories yet high in flavour, and can be added to baking, hot drinks and more. These are just two examples of delicious, nutritious alternatives to sweet treats. Once you start looking, you will be surprised at how long the list gets! Focus on what you can eat, rather on what you can't, and you may find those cravings for chocolate and candy disappear.
