Ingredients:
\nFilling
\n500 gm dates\n½ cup water
\n1 Tsp Naturally Sweet Xylitol\n\n
Base
\n200 gm milk free shortening (I used Nutlex brand)\n½ Naturally Sweet Xylitol
\n2 ½ cups Rolled Oats
\n2 cups Plain wholemeal flour
\n1 Tsp Bi-carb Soda
\n¾ cup warm water\n\n
Method:
\nPreheat oven to moderate, line a 28cm x 18 cm slab tin with baking paper\nMix well together the Xylitol and shortening add bi-carb, flour and oats. Finally add water mixing well
\nDivide mixture into half
\nSpread one half over the base pressing down firmly
\nSpread over the cooked date mixture
\nSprinkle over the remains of the base mixture and gently spread out to form a topping
\nBake in moderate oven for about 35 minutes or till cooked and very pale brown
\nCut into slices and serve either warm as a dessert or cold as a slice\n\n
